Under Armour has unveiled the Olympic attire to be worn by the US Women’s & Men’s gymnastics teams at the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro beginning August 5.
The new leotards are designed to add compression to specific areas of the body to assist in increased blood flow, improved stretch of the fabric to aid mobility during the athlete’s movements, and are made of a lighter weight material.
In addition, Under Armour has brought back a hint of past leotard designs by choosing red, white, and blue as the leotard’s color palette.
In an interview with mic.com, Adam Clement, Under Armour’s senior creative director of team sports states, “One of this biggest learnings from gymnastics is that you win or lose base off of the judges’ opinions, which makes the uniforms for gymnastics a big part of the competition (more so than in some other sports).”
