A total of 98 gymnasts, 12 teams of 5 athletes and 38 individuals, will be competing in the qualification rounds in their attempt to make it to Team Finals, All-Around Finals, and Event Finals in both the Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics competitions.
There will be 3 subdivisions of competition for Men’s qualification and 5 subdivisions in the Women’s qualification rounds. The US Men will compete in Subdivision 2 along with Great Britain, France, Germany, and 2 mixed groups. The US Women will compete in Subdivision 4 with the Netherlands and 2 mixed group.
The US Men will begin their quest for Team Gold on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 1:30pm EST on Vault while the US Women will begin their defense of their Olympic Team title on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 4:30pm EST on Floor.
From these qualification rounds;
- 8 Men’s teams and Women’s teams will advance into the Team Finals
- 24 individuals (only 2 per country) will advance to the All-Around Finals
- 8 gymnasts (only 2 per country) will advance onto Apparatus Finals
Qualification information for Rhythmic Gymnastics and Men’s & Women’s Trampoline was also released. Out of 26 women competing in the qualification round of Rhythmic Gymnastics, only 10 will advance to the All-Around Finals. 14 Rhythmic Groups will battle it out for only 8 spots in finals. In Trampoline, 16 Men and 16 Women will compete in their qualification rounds for coveted spots in Finals.
