On December 27, 2015 I published an article that reported that Russia had already chosen four out of the five women who will represent them at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio (click here for original article). These four women included; Viktoria Komova, Aliya Mustafina, Maria Paseka, and Ksenia Afanasyeva.
A post written by Rewriting Russian Gymnastics on Facebook, posted on February 9, states that the Russians have narrowed down their search for the fifth and final team member to three athletes. The three Russian woman rumored to be in the running for this final spot are Natalia Kapitonova, Angelina Melnikova, and Daria Spiridonova.
In the Facebook post, a video of the three woman was attached (see below).
As I stated in the original article, I find it hard to believe that Russia has already chosen their team now 6 months out from the Olympics.
Either one of two things are going on; 1) This is just a bunch of hype! 2) They have chosen their team and are going to focus all their time and energy on these 5 women only leading up to the Olympic Games.
I guess only time will tell.
